Paul worked for Finch Furniture store in High Point, NC before becoming a tinsmith and had a shop behind his residence at 1411 King Street in High Point, NC. He also worked at Tomlinson Chair Co. in High Point in their maintenance shop.
Paul always enjoyed a good joke. While Paul was living at 1411 King Street in High Point, NC a Negro man delivered ice to Paul on a horse drawn wagon. Paul made excellent homemade wine. One hot day Paul served the wagon driver some wine. Later that day the owner of the ice company called Paul to see if the driver was okay when he came by his house. Paul told the owner the driver was fine. It seems after having two big glasses of the wine at Paul’s house the wagon driver gave all the ice away without charge for the rest of the day.
Paul worked for his son, Mack L. Gordy, Sr. until his retirement from Carolina Blower, Co. in Greensboro, NC in 1964.

Family Story
Paul owned a farm south of High Point, NC at the end of Gordy Road. This farm had a pond and a large apple orchard. Paul kept goats, chickens and pigs on this farm. After his retirement he sold this farm and he and Kathryn bought a larger farm on Skeet Club Road off of Eastchester Drive in High Point, NC. This property backed up to what is now Oak Hollow Lake and had a barn that was built without nails. It was constructed with wooden pegs. After the death of Paul's second wife, Kathryn, his daughter, Iris Marie Gordy, convinced him to sell his farm and move to Buford, Ga away from his family. Paul spent his remaining years living in a trailer park in a double wide. Gone were the days of walking over his farm land and making his homemade wine.
Paul Harold Gordy is buried in the Broadlawn Memorial Cemetery in Buford, GA in an unmarked grave.
